George and Marilyn Stursa are the winners of this year's chicken coop.. the big raffle prize to benefit our local 4H kids.  George and Marilyn were first introduced to chickens at our Chicken Chat & Coop Tour 3 years ago.  They wanted that first coop so bad but not being the lucky winner ended up building one of their own.  Since then they have added new chickens each year.  They have a new flock just waiting to move into this new coop.

Just fit..

Ready for the drive home!
Smile.... happy looks good on you!

I feel a creative urge coming on.  Just look at these cool hanging lamps.  We have a great display of cool old stuff that you could use to make a  hanging lamp.  Come in and be inspired.   Plus we even have a sample electrical set up for you to check out so you can see how easy it would be to make your own ...  I have a need for at least two of these in my kitchen.  How about you?  These would be great inside or out!!

I love these bait buckets... make great hanging lamps or flip them over and hang them with a candle or lights inside.

We have some wonderful cake covers..

Who would of thought to use a vintage trash can... love this!

We have a rusty one, a yellow one, and a red one....

Enamelware basins - we have white and black and blue

Milk buckets - we have a couple of white ones..

A bucket and lid.... very cool.
So come in and see these great ideas.
We look forward to seeing you!

ESTACADA Easter Egg Parade & Egg Hunt

What are you doing this morning??  This is what we are going to do.  Estacada's annual Easter parade starts  at 10:30a at the Estacada High School.  The parade heads down Main Street, turns on 4th Avenue and heads back on Broadway.  Our grandkids love this parade.  Lots of places to sit... bring chairs or sit on the curb.  It is a big parade for a little town.  Lots of great entries, candy being thrown, cool fire trucks and horses.  After the parade at noon, the Estacada Rural Fire Department is holding an Easter Egg Hunt at the football stadium.  This is the most organized, fun, free Easter Egg hunt.  Areas are designated by age,  kids only with parents standing close by, and thousands of eggs.  All you have to bring is your own basket, bag, or big pockets.  There is delicious barbecue set up and other activities for the kids.  This makes a fun and memorable day.  I hope to see you there.

Stop in at The Wade Creek House while you are in the area... that is always a fun time.  So we can all be home with our families tomorrow, The Wade Creek House will be closed Easter.  Enjoy the day with your families too!

Easter's the only time of year when it's perfectly safe to put all your eggs in one basket... author unknown

Nikki called this an EPIC day....

What a wonderful day.... great 4H kids, sweet chickens, beautiful weather.... can't get any better than that.

Thank you to two wonderful chicken lovers... Mary and Nona Shearer who are loved by all.  Their knowledge of chickens was barely tapped, their love for the birds evident, and their singing the "chicken" song is always a hit.   We are thrilled at the great turnout - we met so many new friends.
A great crowd.. and lots of questions.  Us chicken lovers never know it all, never do it the same way, always want to hear how others care for their birds.  We got that yesterday.
And it was for the kids... our local 4H kids Odd Stock & Crafts 4H Club
This is part of  a note from them..

We were able to make chicken carriers. We now use our chicken carriers to take our chickens to shows and meetings. Some of the kids took them home and painted them to enter as wood working projects at the fair. One of the chicken carriers even made it to State Fair!
We were also able to get flowers and herbs for container gardens, as well as getting enough dirt for all of them too! We pruned, watered, and cared for these plants to enter in the Clackamas County Fair, and were ecstatic when some of them earned first and second place!
This year, we plan to get more wood and supplies to build chicken feeders for our chickens. We hope that we will be able to enter these in the fair this year, as well as to let our chickens enjoy.
The kids taught us a few things.  They showed us how to hold the birds, we learned a bit of anatomy, saw some different kinds of chickens.  They also demonstrated how they show their birds in competition.  They do a great job handling and caring for their chickens.
Our coop was on the tour... this was one of our visitors.  She was resting after playing with the dogs and chickens.   I couldn't resist taking her picture.

Thank you to all our coop owners for opening up their coops.  A thank you to our contributors: Tri-County HVAC Inc., to Precision Pet for the coop, Burns Feed Store, Wilco, Old Farmhouse Feed & Garden Center, Gerber Farm Supply, Clackamas Feed and Pet Supply, Estacada True Value, Animal Health Solutions, Backyard Poultry Magazine, Miller Family Farm, Hobby Farm Publications,  Mary Lake -Thompson Ltd., Storey Publishing, Tami Serhan at Ultra Ego Salon, & The Egg Carton Store.
And to Nikki Mantei who organized it all!
 Life is good!
