Time for Valentine Decor

February 14th is just around the corner... time for a little Valentine decor.  This Saturday, February 1st, let Linda help you create an adorable 2 - 3 foot tree in a "covered" pot using colors of the season.  Using copper wire to enhance the branches, your tree will be ready to attach colorful decorations for Valentine's Day.  Bring small pictures of family, friends, pets, anything you may want to put in a heart ornament and you will make some here for your tree.  Then after Valentine's Day, you can decorate your tree for the next holiday.  This tree can be used year around.  Linda will give you a number of decoration and idea pages explaining how to change your tree to fit each season.  Please bring pliers, wire cutters & scissors if you have them and don't forget the tiny photos.. $ 30   11a - 1p   limited class size so call today and reserve your spot.

LEARN TO QUILT WITH DEBBIE..

I began quilting about 35 years ago.   It always looked so difficult but once I learned the different piecing techniques, I was hooked.  This three session quilting class will get you hooked too.

Join Debbie and learn the art of piecing and finishing.  Debbie has been quilting for many, many years and is a retired teacher.  She has the knack of teaching  that makes things easy and you will enjoy the fun and relaxed atmosphere.   This quilt can be wall hanging size or bed size, it all depends on how many house blocks you make (min 4 - max 12)..  So come and learn skills and techniques to complete this quilting project.  Bring mat, rotary cutter, ruler, scissors, and sewing machine if you have one.  For your first class, bring 3 different fat quarters.  Don't let lack of equipment stop you from signing up as Debbie has some to share. Dates of the three sessions are 1/22, 2/5, and 2/26. Cost is $45.   Limited class size so reservations required.

OLD DOORS ARE SO MUCH FUN!

I love old doors...  as you would be able to tell coming to my house. There is so much you can do with doors, both indoors and out.   Some of these pictures are taken at The Wade Creek House and the rest are ideas of others...    If you want an old door, you will find them here.

PEEP PEEP PEEP

Our baby chicks are going great and now have names.... Betty & Willa.  Pam, one of the girls that grew up in the house that is now The Wade Creek House, reminded me that her parents names were Betty and Will.  My great niece Alaina had said separately that she liked Willa as one of her name choices.  So after Pam reminded me about her parents names, the fit was perfect.  Thank you Pam and Alaina!  I hope they stay true to their names... don't need any more roosters!

Since you know I love chickens have you heard about our CHICKEN CHAT & COOP TOUR?

Mark your calendar for the second Saturday in April, this year April 12.  First you come to The Wade Creek House and listen to the experts as they tell us all there is to know about raising these wonderful backyard birds.  Then buy tickets for the coop tour which takes you in town, out of town, and around town to view many different types of coops.   You will get to meet the owners,  be able to ask questions and it is just a wonderful day.  And all for a good cause - our local 4H kids.  If you have a coop you would like to share, please let us know by giving us a call!

Quilting Around the Neighborhood

All the rush is over, things are calming down, time to plan your next project.  Debbie is starting a quilting class called Quilting Around The Neighborhood.  An adorable quilt.  Good for the beginner and intermediate.  The class  will be held Wednesday afternoons from 1p - 3p.  First class is January 22, then February 5 and the final class is February 26.   Series of 3 classes for $45.  The nice thing about this quilt is that you can make it wall hanging size to bed size depending on how many "house" blocks you make.  Bring a cutting mat, rotary cutter, scissors, & sewing machine if you have one.     3 fat quarters per house.   Minimum of 4 houses - maximum 12 houses. FIRST CLASS BRING 3 different fat quarters.  Don't let lack of equipment stop you from signing up for this class - Debbie has some to share.  Limited class size so reservations required.

NEW BEGINNINGS IN 2014

2014 - a time of new beginnings.  Here at The Wade Creek House we are into new beginnings too... of a different sort.... and two of them!  Maybe I should start at the beginning and try to make it short.

Our buff orpington hens are a broody breed of chicken.  Buttercup made herself a little nest in the corner of the chicken house and sat on her eggs and many other hens eggs. You see other hens will contribute to the nest daily so soon she is sitting on lots of eggs.  The chickens have a great space and I don't want more chickens so every Saturday, I would pick Buttercup up and remove all the eggs.  It takes 21 days to make a chick so obviously I missed an egg or two as last Saturday, I did the same, only this time I heard peep, peep, peep.  I looked down and an egg was beginning to crack.  What the.....!!  Once hearing that I put her back on the nest and left her alone.  Went in later and the other buff Binky was sitting on the nest with her.  Two eggs hatched, we have two baby chicks and two happy mamas.  Hard to get a picture because whenever the door opens they run underneath the moms.  Stop by for a peek.  NOW WE HAVE TO NAME THEM.... ANY SUGGESTIONS?  I just hope we don't get any more Ruby's that turn into roosters named Red.  The red of the picture is the heat lamp & my camera in the wrong setting..
