Oooo Oooo...

Oooo Oooo!  How could I have missed these two cake carriers.  I guess when you have multiple vendors, there is something in so many nooks and crannies.  This one with the flowers is sooo sweet!  Would love it on my counter and would enjoy just looking at it but as a lamp shade, even better!

This one has such great colors too... just a little touch of steel wool
to remove that rusty spot and voila - great patina!

So much fun.... I need to look for more... to make one of these!

Beekeeping 101 - a wonderful class!

Yesterday we were treated to a wonderful class about bees.  David gave us such great information I feel like I know what to do next to take care of the bees at Wade Creek House.  I feel like I learned so much.

We made new friends from Gladstone, Newberg, Beavercreek, Estacada, Milwaukie, Oregon City, Damascus, SW Portland  and beyond.  Thanks for being part of this class, for sharing your beekeeping experiences and for asking great questions.

Our hive was also visited.... this was a hive that I got from a friend and I had planned to sell.  The bees had other ideas.  The bees like this hive as David removed a swarm last year and then another group moved in.  They love the flowers, lavender, and other flowering plants around.  We looked in to see if they survived the cold winter.

This little hive needs another box which it will get this spring.  This fall when I showed David the box, it was so full that David brought another smaller box to give them some room, they were having trouble finding room for themselves.  The good part of that was that the bees had lots of food for the winter.

When he first opened the box, I could really tell that much of the contents of the hive had been consumed and there in the middle were our bees.... alive!!  You could still see more honey stores,   the bees appeared to be in good shape.....  they survived the winter!!

Bees are so amazing!

Thank you again David and Vonda Reinhold.... the bees and I appreciate you and look forward to this Spring when we add onto their home.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Today is beekeeping class day.  I am so excited.  David is experienced, enthusiastic, and passionate about bees and I am looking forward to learning about backyard beekeeping.   We are even going to have a look at my bees (the ones that moved into a hive I had for sale) to see how they fared over the winter.  We still have openings so if you have time this morning, class starts at 10:30 and is $20.  There is still time to join us.

The only reason for making a buzzing-noise that I know of is because you're a bee...The only reason for being a bee that I know of is making honey....and the only reason for making honey is so I can eat it.  ~ Winnie the Pooh in A.A. Milne's 'The House at Pooh Corner'

We had a fun time with Tammy and Leanne this weekend... look what they made!  It was great that they could make the rescheduled class.

And speaking of classes..  This coming Saturday, February 22 at 10:30a, is our Beginning Backyard Beekeeping class.  I am so excited.... I will be there.  Last year I picked up a bee hive box at a sale and brought it to the shop to sell... guess what.... we have a nice hive of bees.  Now I am going to learn from David Reinhold, local beekeeper, on how to start a box the right way, how to keep my bees healthy and happy and how to process the honey.  Come join me and bring your questions. Cost is $20.  There is a limit to class size so call in and reserve your spot.

MONDAY

The schools are closed, the parking lot is icy, and it is raining at 28 degrees
so we are closed again today....
please be safe!  Thanks for the pic Nikki!

Need another idea to do yourself or with your children?
Have you made your Valentine cards yet?
Today's the day.

I took two more pages out of the book I use for crafts, a brown paper grocery bag, an  old Christmas card, and I have letter stamps.   OH, and a glue stick.

For the cover I cut my book page to size and decorated.  Letter stamps are so fun... if you don't have them you can cut out letters, use crayons,  a marker..  If you don't have letter stamps, take your 40% coupon to Michaels a get some... I use mine all the time.  I love them and my grandsons love them too.

For the inside, I cut my brown paper bag to size and did the same.
Use any paper, wrapping paper,  construction paper.   I used an old Christmas card so it wasn't so flimsy but if you have some heavier paper or construction paper, you can skip that step..

And the kids have lots of small valentines to make for school..
this will give them something fun to do today after they are done playing outside in the snow.

I hope you always find a reason to smile......

Sunday

Foggy, icy, snowy, cold..... yep, we are closed again today.

Banners are fun and you can be so creative adding ribbons, stenciled letters, stamps, the list is endless.  But being stuck at home I just used a page out of an old book that I use for crafts, a brown paper grocery bag &  string.

Saturday....

Listening to the weather, it looks like the shop will be closed thru Monday.  Here is another  craft ideas to keep you entertained while you are enjoying your time at home .....   this one just takes newspaper, or an old magazine

Valentine Heart Garland using newspaper

Make  4x4ish newspaper squares.

Fold the squares in half.

Cut half a heart shape on the fold of the paper (see photo)

Cut another heart out from the center of the heart.

So they can intertwine, cut anywhere along the heart (I cut along the fold on the bottom).

Intertwine the heart onto another one like a chain and then seal the cut with a small piece of tape.

Take another heart outline and repeat the step till the heart chain is the length you want.

Creativity is messy..... I am very creative

A fun, easy project..

Still snowing... the shop will be closed again tomorrow...  Saturday, February 8th

Need a fun project while at home?  Make a valentine heart out of an embroidery hoop, fabric, & buttons.  Snugly put any scrap fabric in embroidery hoop, make outline of heart and fill with buttons.  Would be cute  hanging on your wall, in your window, anywhere.

Please be safe, warm, and appreciate each day.

Our hearts go out to the family of the Clackamas County weighmaster who was killed this am nearby. We saw firsthand the intensity of the manhunt taking place around us today. We wish them a safe and quick resolution to their search.

Jim and Tracy's Adventure

The Gilbert House

Many of you know Jim and Tracy from The Wade Creek House... Jim with his passion for  militaria and Tracy for her passion with everything else.  This love of the old, vintage, unique have lead them on another adventure.  They recently had the opportunity to take over an antique shop in Redmond, Oregon and make it their own.  Another old house, The Gilbert House built in 1929, will have its Grand Opening this weekend.  Located at 203 SW 6th Street, the shop will be open Friday from 11a - 5p with the Grand Opening Saturday from 11a -  5p.   They would love to see you.   Thankfully, they will still have a booth at The Wade Creek House....for now.
