1st Annual Chicken Chat & Coop Tour a Success!

For those of you who missed out on the fun, Saturday, April 2nd was a day to be remembered.

Chicken enthusiasts and freinds of the feather came to hear two local & national poultry experts, Nona & Mary Shearer, share their "eggs"pertise on raising chickens. These two "chicks" really know their stuff! They filled our ears and minds with great information and funny stories & humorous visuals... 55 people attended the "Chicken Chat".

After at, 33 brave souls endured sun, rain, hail, wind and sleet to tour 8 local Estacada chicken coops and 3 surrounding feed stores. Drawings were held at each location with great prizes to be won.

Local feed stores donated feed and gift certificates; Hobby Farms donated chicken magazines & chicken books, Coastal Farm (Gresham) donated Flock Blocks, & Mary Lake-Thompson Ltd donated chicken floursack towels!

Chickens of all types are living in coops of all shapes & sizes. One of the most fun I've seen is this "Chick Condo", which resembles the owners home... so it should come as no surprise that the 4 future residents are 8 week old Cochin hens in various colors. Pretty hens for a pretty coop!  : )

We'll get pictures of all our participating coops up on the blog for your viewing pleasure!

Hangin' with my Peeps!

 THANK YOU...
... to Nona & Mary Shearer for sharing their time & knowlede with all of us!
... to the private coop owners for opening up their coops for all to see.
... to Barton Feed, Eagle Creek Feed, and Gerber Farm Supply for their support and prize donations.
Also, a big thank you goes out to The Artsmith - they donated the printing for our Tour Maps!!

THE SUN CAME OUT...DID YOU SEE IT?

The sun came out and I couldn't resist getting my camera out and snapping a few pictures. As always, new merchandise arrives almost daily.  Just a reminder that the shop will be open until 8 this coming Thursday as it is the 5th Thursday of the month.  This happens a few times a year and it doesn't take much for us to find a reason  to celebrate the day.  Come celebrate with us... light snacks will be served.  AND next Saturday is our 1st Annual Chicken Chat and Coop Tour.  Join us... it will be informational and FUN!

FUDGE AND FLOWERS FOR VALENTINE'S DAY

This is our third year offering Fidalgo Fudge at Valentine's Day.  When I think of fudge, I picture the fudge I make at Christmas.... but this no ordinary fudge.  There is:  Tiger Butter which is made like stripes on a tiger.  Vanilla fudge, creamy peanut butter, more vanilla fudge the topped off with chocolate fudge swirled with peanut butter. There is Cappuccino which uses a blend of three coffees, Old fashioned Penuche with Almonds which uses brown sugar as the star ingredient.  Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Mint, Chocolate Peppermint and Island Special which uses chocolate fudge, vanilla fudge, and caramel layered while warm and gently swirled together.  Ummmmmm  Each piece is 1/4 pound and we have lovely gift boxes tied with Valentine ribbon.

AND the flowers.  Pat has beautiful fresh cut roses in a variety of colors, scesnts, sizes.  Your valentine will feel very special after you have shopped at THE WADE CREEK HOUSE.  Hurry in as Valentine's Day is just around the corner.
