Our friend Annette...

was taught to make these great Native American baskets about 40 years ago from a Cherokee Indian. As the younger generation has not continued this art/craft,  Annette said it is becoming a lost art.  It is called "basket coiling."  The baskets were originally made by the men and they would take raffia and wrap over vines.  They would put sap inside and cook in them each day.

Annette is a talented retired art teacher who we met at our Estacada Farmer's Market.  She is often asked to teach a class on how to make these beautiful baskets and we feel lucky that she will teach a class with us.  On Sunday, August 2 and again on Sunday, August 9th from 1p - 3p she will walk us through the process.  The class takes two sessions to complete.

Cost is $35 if you purchase your own supplies and $40 if you only bring a skein of yarn, color of your choice... Annette can get the rest.  Supplies include 1/4 inch rope (50 feet makes 2 baskets), a metal large eye embroidery needle (eye big enough for yarn), a skein of yarn and scissors.

Limited class size so call today to reserve your space...   503-630-7556.

ESTACADA GARDEN TOUR AND RAFFLE

Saturday is the Estacada Garden Tour that benefits our Estacada Community Center. I had a chance yesterday to go to Debbie's house that is on the tour. She has a fairly new garden with wonderful ideas on what to do with nooks, crannies, and slopes. Be sure to take your camera on the tour as you will want to remember all the great ideas you will see.... Here are a few peeks...
Saturday, July 11th 10a - 4p $15 for 1 & $25 for 2 AND  all being donated to our Estacada Community Center.

ALL STARTING AT Wade Creek House Antiques across from the skate park and down the street from the Estacada Library. Don't forget to get your raffle tickets... who couldn't use a cord of wood, a load of gravel, 4 yards of bark or a wonderful float on the Clackamas River.

Oh, and don't forget... Estacada Farmer's  Market will be there, Meridith is having a great Lavender Wand Walk-Up Workshop, and Nikki is having a concrete leaf workshop.  Busy, busy, fun day!
